Kentucky’s Brooks probably won’t return

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Kentucky coach Rich Brooks told his Wildcats that he’sprobably not returning next season after a 21-13 loss to Clemson on Sunday nightin the Music City Bowl.

Brooks said at the postgame news conference that he’s “80 percent” surehe’s not coming back. He plans to think about his next move, talk with hisfamily and make a final decision within the week.

The 68-year-old coach finished his seventh season at Kentucky with a 7-6record and 39-47 overall mark with the Wildcats. If it was his final game, hiscareer coaching record in college will be 130-156-4 in 25 seasons, including 18at Oregon.

Last January, Kentucky announced that offensive coordinator Joker Phillipswill take over as head coach when Brooks steps down.

“I think it may be time for a change and time for Joker to take over,”Brooks said. “Not totally sure. I just felt like maybe it’s time.”

Brooks said he had been thinking about calling it a career over the pastweek, but stayed busy with preparations for the bowl game. Kentucky made schoolhistory by reaching a fourth straight bowl game, but snapped a three-gamewinning streak with the loss.
