Berry hopes Thorpe Award trend continues

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)—Tennessee safety Eric Berry has a lofty new traditionto uphold as the winner of the Jim Thorpe Award.
Two of the last three winners of the award given to the nation’s top collegedefensive back have gone on to win the Super Bowl the following year. NewOrleans Saints cornerback Malcolm Jenkins was last year’s Thorpe Award winner.
Berry was in Oklahoma City on Monday night to receive his award, and Jenkinscut short his Super Bowl celebration to be a part of the presentation.
Berry says the Super Bowl trend is “something we hope keeps rolling.”
Berry had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries for the Volunteerslast season. He also was second on the team with 83 tackles.
The junior has declared to enter the NFL draft.
